Skiing & Snowboarding
With the Rockies close by, it's easy to forget about the local ski areas that dot the prairie landscape. Let your self be surprised by just how much fun you can have spending a day or an evening playing in the snow.
Plus, you can never get too many days of skiing with friends and with options so close to home there's no excuses not to get out, even if only for a few hours.

Unlike most prairie ski areas that are located in river valleys, Medicine Lodge Ski Club is on an actual hill. A short drive north of Sylvan Lake, the ski club offers the occasional powder day along with runs for beginner and more advanced riders.
I have to admit that it took us a couple of years of living in Red Deer before we skied Medicine Lodge. We headed out during the Christmas holidays a few years ago when our oldest was just starting on skis and we've been going back whenever we get a weekend day off ever since.
