Ellis Bird Farm

Nature, Environment and Wildlife Centres

Discover Central Alberta's natural history. Learn about the region's wildlife, plants and local environmental issues. Find a quiet spot to enjoy the feeling of nature, close to the city.

Include a visit to one of the area's nature centre on your next trip and take advantage of their programs for all ages.

One of the most relaxing and enjoyable place in Central Alberta. Take a stroll through the gardens, learn about mountain bluebirds, tree swallows and other native cavity-nesting birds and enjoy a delicious lunch at the Ellis Cafe.

Located a short drive north of Red Deer, the Ellis Bird Farm is open Tuesday through Sunday from Victoria Day to Labour Day.

Go on a nature adventure without leaving the city. The whole family will love the nature centre with its interactive exhibit on the area's natural history, the nature inspired exhibits of the Marjorie Wood Gallery and the Imagination Grove playground. Take in one of their programs on astronomy, learn about wildlife tracking or bring the kids along to build a birdhouse. Head out for a walk along the Gaetz Lakes Migratory Bird Sanctuary, the oldest one in Alberta, for an evening of bird watching.
