Our goal is to inspire people to play outside, explore the places we love and experience the activities we’re passionate about. We offer guided hikes, snowshoe tours, sightseeing tours, ice bubble adventures and more. As far as we’re concerned, food is part of all great adventures. It keeps us fueled on the trail, helps us slow down to enjoy the moment over lunch, and gives us an excuse to get together and share the memories we’ve made along the way.

Canteen Summer Staff

Interested in spending the summer exploring the Nordegg region? We’re looking for one more team member to join us at the Canteen for the summer!

We all do a little of everything, from taking orders to scooping ice cream and flipping burgers depending on what’s needed but this position is primarily in the kitchen.

Your Role

Reporting to the Food & Beverage Manager, you’ll be working as part of the team to serve delicious meals for our guests. This includes:

  • Working in the kitchen to do prep, cook meals and clean up.
  • Scooping ice cream, making coffee and assembling orders.
  • Working the order window, greeting guests and taking their orders.

About You

You’re the right person if you have:

  • A love for the outdoors and the Nordegg & Abraham Lake region;
  • A willingness to go above and beyond, to jump in and get your hands dirty;
  • The ability to think on your feet;
  • The desire to learn and the willingness to ask for help;
  • Positive energy, pride in everything you do and outstanding work ethic;
  • The ability to do physical work;
  • Past kitchen experience and/or training (preferred but not required);
  • ProServe training (can be obtained within the first week of work).

The Details

The position is Thursday to Sunday (including evenings), working through our busiest days making sandwiches, fries and salads.

This position is supported by the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 30 to be eligible. The starting wage is $17 per hour, 32 hours per week from July 5 to September 5.

Where can I find a place to live in Nordegg?

Unfortunately, finding rental accommodation in Nordegg is challenging and we do not have staff housing available at the moment. We recommend that you start looking for options well ahead of time.

Temporary Housing

The Shunda Creek Hostel offers affordable lodging options. Contact them directly to find out more.

Living in your van or RV is an option. Camping is prohibited within the townsite but random camping on the public lands surrounding Nordegg is an option. You will need a $30 annual permit from the provincial government and will have to move location every 14 days.

Laundry and shower facilities are available at the Shell gas station in town.

Do I need a vehicle?

Most positions do not require you to have a personal vehicle but life in Nordegg is challenging without one. There is no public transit and you will likely need to drive to Rocky Mountain House (an hour away) from time to time to pick up groceries and other supplies.

Do I have to wear a uniform?

We do not have a staff uniform at the moment. All we ask is that you wear clean clothes that reflect the outdoor lifestyle. Staff qualifies for pro deals with a number of outdoor brands.

Can I work for you if I am not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident?

You must be legally entitled to work in Canada. If you are not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident you will need a valid work permit or visa. Please note that we are unable to sponsor foreign workers who do not have a valid work permit.
