Food is part of all great adventures. It keeps us fueled on the trail, helps us slow down to enjoy the moment over lunch, and gives us an excuse to get together and share the memories we’ve made along the way.
Since 2015 we’ve been making all of the snacks and lunches in-house for our tours. Our ice pops started as a refreshing treat after a day on the trail before becoming a regular feature at markets throughout Central Alberta. In the summer of 2020, we embarked on a new adventure setting up our little canteen in Nordegg.
You’ll find us on the main street, past the gas stations. We’re the blue building and food truck with a large yard and great views. Stop by for an ice cream cone, an espresso or one of our sandwiches and fries.

We’re open year-round. Our summer hours are Sunday to Friday 10 am to 6:30 pm and Saturdays 10 am to 8:30 pm. During the winter months we’re open Wednesday to Friday from 11 am to 5 pm and from 10 am to 6 pm on the weekend.
The Menu
We love to share food inspired by the outdoors and our adventures in the region.
Mornings are all about our fresh donuts, baked goods and all-day breakfast along with a cup of coffee. Lunchtime features our sandwiches like the Bacon Chicken Avocado, fries, poutine and salads. Afternoons are about taking the time to slow down in the yard, enjoying an ice cream cone or a craft beer surrounded by mountain views.
We have a tiny kitchen in a remote town. We can only store limited quantities of everything we make so everything is available until we run out. We encourage you to order ahead to avoid missing out on your favourites.

The Yard
The Yard at the Canteen is the perfect place to enjoy your après with some of the best views in town.
Sit back with your ice cream on a hot summer afternoon, share a moment with friends listening to live music or relax by the firepits after a day of snowshoeing. Check out the events calendar to see what’s coming up in the yard or the webcam to see the current conditions.
We’re making some changes to the yard for this winter: more sheltered spaces including in the covered deck, more firepits and as always you’re welcome to bring your camping chair and blanket along. Plus, the yard is now licensed so that you can enjoy a craft beer with mountain views. Stop by to see what we’re working on.
Cabin Meals + Local Pantry
The perfect option when you’re looking for more time to play outside or to relax with a book by the fire instead of cooking. All you need to supply is the pots and pans, the meal kits come with everything you need for a tasty breakfast, lunch or dinner at the cabin or campsite.

Private Functions
We’re happy to host your small group (8 to 20 guests) in our licensed yard or on our covered deck. Meal options include our full menu and any of our cabin meals.

Self Catering Options
All of our cabin meals can be prepared hot for you to pick up at the Canteen to use at your event. Keep in mind that we have very limited kitchen space so we recommend contacting us well ahead of time.
At this point, we do not offer off-site catering or table service options.

Our location, between Central Alberta and the Mountain National Parks, lets us showcase some of the best Alberta has to offer. Many of our suppliers come from Clearwater County, the Bow Valley and the Red Deer Region.
